In December 2013, 77-year-old Akron resident Stirley Green and his family enjoyed a roundtrip limo ride to a gourmet dinner at Crave Restaurant in downtown Akron followed by the Cirque du Soleil Dreams Holidaze Show at the beautiful E.J. Thomas Hall.
“Thank you so much for this great surprise. I did something I would not have done had it not been for Life Is Good No Matter What™. I had an amazing time with my family and have memories that will last forever.”
Our second gift was granted in March 2013 to Angela, 34, of Parma, Ohio. Angela's greatest desire was to give her 8-year-old daughter, Faith, a chance to experience “a normal weekend getaway” that didn't revolve around the treatments or medication schedules her family had endured during her two-year battle with breast cancer. Accompanied by Angela's mother, Marion, the ladies traveled by plane to Chicago to see the sites. In addition to viewing marine life at the Shedd Aquarium, shopping on The Magnificent Mile, checking out the Chicago skyline from the top of the John Hancock Building, and indulging in gourmet meals at local restaurants, the highlight was being spoiled at the American Girl store. Faith was treated to a doll, was pampered in the beauty shop, treated to lunch, and given a special photo shoot at the store.
“We've created memories that will last a lifetime. You have taught my daughter what a wonderful world we live in and how total strangers can be so kindhearted and giving. Best of all, for the entire weekend, I completely forgot that I was sick!”
Angela's experience reminds us that people with advanced cancer don't have time to waste or wait! She died six weeks after her Chicago weekend.
In October 2013, Life Is Good No Matter What™ sent Akron, Ohio, resident Christine Tucker, age 52, and her two daughters Sarah, 15, and Krystin, 24, to Sarasota, Florida. Christine had never been to Florida, yet was a lover of the ocean and said that the thought of lying on the beach and reading a book was her ultimate idea of relaxation. Christine and her daughters flew to Tampa and were picked up via limo and shuttled to Sarasota, where they stayed at the Ritz Carlton. A shuttle bus to the beach ensured plenty of time spent in the sand and surf. Manicures, pedicures, meals, shopping, and a photo shoot to capture all the memories rounded out the weekend. Christine treasured the memories from her Escape and loved having all the photographs from the weekend to take her back to the moment.
“It was nice to be pampered because usually I'm the one taking care of everybody else. For a few days I could relax and forget about getting to doctor's appointments and paying medical bills. The experience regenerated me and allowed me to spend some precious time with my daughters.”
In October 2013, Life Is Good No Matter What™ sent Jean, a resident of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and her husband Dave to Michigan for a fall foliage weekend. Jean, an avid photographer and nature lover, wanted to enjoy the fresh air and autumn colors. They spent three nights in Dearborn, Michigan and visited the Henry Ford Museum and the Fall Flavor Festival while enjoying gourmet Italian and seafood dinners.
